Good Morning Pocasset Families,
This morning at 9:18 am, we hosted our first "Sheep, Shepard, and Wolf" drill (the elementary version of a lockdown drill). Members of both the Tiverton Police and Tiverton Fire Departments were onsite to offer support and feedback. The drill lasted 10 minutes total, and we were universally complimented by both departments for how our students and teachers/staff performed the drill.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Dr. Suzette Wordell, Principal
Good Morning Pocasset Families,
Each year we practice safety drills with our students. The most commonly know are fire drills (which we have completed 3 so far). There is another drill that we practice with our students: lockdown. We use the ALICE protocols that every adult in Pocasset (including all teachers and teacher assistants) have been trained in to unify our approach in a very child-centered way.
Since we are dealing with elementary students, I read the ALICE recommended children's book to all classes this morning, called "I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared". In this book, we teach our elementary students that our lockdown drill is called a "Sheep, Shepard, and Wolf Drill". The students are the sheep, the adults are the shepards that will lead them to safety, and the wolf is the unexpected visitor. We ensure that when we perform the drill, we use age-appropriate language and have social-emotional personnel here to support any students who may need it. I also will send an email home at the conclusion of the drill so you are aware of what happened and how our practice went. Last school year, we practiced 4 lockdown drills with no incidence.
I am including a link here: https://youtu.be/F4vmSsgkhHc of a video that explains ALICE to families. Thank you to Mrs. Simmons for the video link. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at swordell@tivertonschools.org.
Thanks,

Good Afternoon,
I am attaching the revised School Dress Up Days Calendar. I mistakenly wrote: Friday, October 3 instead of Friday, October 6 for our first Pocasset School Spirit Day. I'm sorry. Attached is the corrected flyer.

Good Morning Pocasset Families,
The votes are in!! Students at Pocasset vote on Dress Up Days each month. They have completed voting, and here are the results for September and October 2023:
Friday, September 29: Students dress like Teachers and Teachers dress like Students
Friday, October 3: Pocasset School Spirit Day (Maroon and White)
Friday, October 13: No School for Students - Professional Development for Teachers/Staff
Friday, October 20: Pocasset Hat Day
Friday, October 27: Pajama Day (students can wear school-appropriate Pajamas to school but no slippers for safety)
Tuesday, October 31: Orange and Black Day (No costumes)
Our amazing PTO is planning a nighttime Halloween party, which is when Pocasset students can wear Halloween costumes. More information will be sent out after our PTO Meeting next week.
All student Dress Up Days are optional - not required. I am including a flyer with all days if you would like to have a single print-out of Dress Up Days for September and October.
Thanks,
Dr. Suzette Wordell, Principal
