Dear Tiverton Public Schools Family,
I am writing today in the spirit of community and to address recent events at Tiverton High School which have understandably caused concern about safety.
I have listened to the concerns of our students, staff, and parents, and I acknowledge that we can do better.
After reviewing both incidents with the high school administration and Police Chief Jones, we have discovered several areas needing improvement, and we are all committed to updating safety measures at all of our schools.
At the School Committee meeting on Tuesday, Chief Jones and I will present our findings to the School Committee in executive session so they are aware of each event. As part of that discussion, we will review all communications.
On Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. the School Committee will hold a special meeting with one agenda item – school safety. Parents are welcome to attend. I hope that you will join us. The meeting will be held in the THS Auditorium.
We will learn from the recent incidents. We will review our security protocols, continue to train with our first responders, and update all communication plans.
I take the safety and security of our students as the first and ultimate priority. Please continue to reach out to me with any feedback and concerns.
With Our Students In Mind,
Peter Sanchioni, Ph.D.
