UPDATES & INFORMATION

Dear Tiverton Parents and Guardians,

Dear Tiverton Families,

I hope this email finds you well. As we continue progressing through the school year, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the dedication of our teachers and administrators. Their commitment to delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive school climate remains unwavering.

  • For students in grades 3-8, we are preparing for the upcoming RICAS assessments. Building principals will soon send out testing schedules with specific details.

  • Our winter sports season has concluded, and we are excited for the start of spring sports at the middle and high school levels on Monday, March 17.

Celebrating Excellence

I am honored to recognize Tiverton High School Principal Susan Craven, who was recently named Rhode Island Secondary Principal of the Year. This well-deserved recognition from RIDE highlights her exceptional leadership, particularly in improving THS’s graduation rate and SAT scores. Please join me in congratulating Sue on this prestigious achievement!

School District Realignment

At the School Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 4, the following district realignment was approved to address a $1.8 million budget deficit while prioritizing the preservation of direct service provider positions:

  • Ranger Elementary will house three sections of grades K-3.

  • Pocasset Elementary will house two pre-kindergarten classrooms and two sections of grades K-3.

  • Fort Barton will transition into a special education program for 18- to 22-year-olds and some administrative offices.

  • 4th grade will move to Tiverton Middle School (TMS), making TMS a grades 4-8 school.

  • No changes will be made at THS.

Despite this realignment, 18 staff positions will be cut this year, following 16 layoffs last year. These financial challenges reflect long-standing revenue shortages, an issue the School Committee and Administration plan to address in collaboration with Town Officials.
