UPDATES & INFORMATION

Dear Tiverton Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to inform you about an important update regarding distance learning and when it will be used.

In our continuous efforts to provide a seamless educational experience for our students, we have decided to implement distance learning on days when school is canceled. This decision has been made after careful consideration of multiple factors.

Key Details:

1. Purpose: The purpose of implementing distance learning on non-school days is to maintain continuity in education and to offer opportunities for students to reinforce their learning, even when they are not physically present in the school building. This approach aligns with our commitment to academic excellence.

2. Schedule: Distance learning days will follow a truncated schedule. Students will be expected to log in to their virtual classrooms at the designated times and participate in synchronous and asynchronous activities as directed by their teachers. All our teachers use Google Classroom. Principals will provide the exact schedule for their schools.

3. Attendance: Attendance will be taken during distance learning days, and students are expected to engage actively in their lessons. Please ensure that your child is prepared and available for online instruction. Attendance matters on these days.

4. Materials and Resources: Teachers will provide necessary materials and resources through Google Classroom. Students should have access to a reliable internet connection and the required technology to participate effectively. Currently, we have provided every student with a working Chromebook. In addition, if any family needs access to the Internet we will provide a working hotspot. If you need a hotspot don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Director of Technology, Dan Andrade at dandrade@tivertonschools.org or call (401)624-8475.

5. Support: Our teachers and support staff will be available to assist students during distance learning days. Please encourage your child to reach out to their teachers if they have any questions or need assistance. All our teachers have been trained to provide distance learning instruction and refined their skills through the pandemic. During a distance learning day should you have any technological issues you can email or call our Tech Department, they are available to help you.

6. Communication: We will maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to keep you informed about distance learning schedules and any updates related to the program. Please know that the decision to move to distance learning happens after the decision is made to cancel school and after we confirm that Tiverton has electricity and a working Internet.

We understand that this transition may pose challenges for some families, and we are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure a successful implementation. If you have any concerns or specific needs related to distance learning, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to help. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to prioritize the safety and education of our students. Together, we can navigate these days when school must be canceled and provide our children with the best possible learning experience.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s education.
