A letter from the TPS SELAC Advisory Committee

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I understand how overwhelming it can feel when your child is first referred to the special education system. As a parent, you hold an essential role as the expert on your child. Your insights and experiences are invaluable to creating a complete and accurate picture of your child’s unique needs. No special education plan can truly succeed without your active participation, input, and approval.

By entering into this parent-professional partnership, you are helping to shape the educational path that will profoundly influence your child’s future. The more you understand about the process, the better equipped you’ll be to advocate effectively for your child.

The Tiverton Special Education Local Advisory Committee (SELAC) is here to support you on this journey. As a collaborative group of parents and professionals, we work together to provide guidance and advice to the Student Services Department regarding special education services. Our mission is to advocate for the needs and rights of students receiving special education services and those with diverse learning needs in our community.

I strongly invite you to join us. Our meetings are open to the public, and your participation is encouraged as we work to support and empower families like yours.

Warm regards,

Christopher Cureton

Chairman,

Tiverton SELAC
